Fight the Good Fight: Communication and Conflict Resolution in Marriage
Saturday, November 8 9am - Noon One social critic suggests that marriage is a three-ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring, and suffering! But how much "suffering" in marriage arises simply from an inability to work through the inevitable conflicts that emerge when two people live vulnerably with one another? The goal in marriage relationships - or really any relationship - isn't to be conflict-free but to understand why conflict occurs and then to handle it healthily, moving toward deeper levels of intimacy rather than isolation or divorce. This seminar will examine a biblical perspective on relational conflict, relying on various passages along with the books Fight Fair: Winning at Conflict without Losing at Love by Tim and Joy Downs, and Marriage Forecasting: Changing the Climate of Your Relationship One Conversation at a Time by Dr. Tim Muehlhoff. Taught by Dr. Ed & Amy Uszynski Dr. Ed and Amy Uszynski have spoken with Family Life at the Weekend to Remember Conference for 11 years, while also speaking regularly to college students and couples about relationships and marriage as long-time staff members with Athletes in Action. They have been married 15 years and have four children.
