Emmanuel Baptist Church has a ministry that is designed to share the love of Jesus Christ with the youth incarcerated in the Greene County Juvenile Detention Facility. This ministry began in the early 1990s and has continued to serve the kids of Greene County each Friday night, during a two-hour program called “Friday Nite Alive”.
A. Our Primary Goal is to show kids how they can have real meaning in their lives. This is accomplished by following God’s plan. Real meaning is found when one is redeemed by God, declared righteous, and then begins to truly worship God. 1. Share with the youth God's truth John 14:6 a. Truth of the Gospel (good news); a personal relationship with a loving and forgiving God (Jesus our Savior) John 3:16, John 5:24 b. Truth of Spiritual LIFE; experiencing victory over sin by a growing relationship with God and a deeper dependence on Christ; learning to trust God more and self less (Jesus our Lord) John 8:31-32, John 15:10-14, Galatians 5:16-26 2. Share with the youth our lives as a sincere worshipers and witnesses of Christ; we are to be living testifiers I Peter2:12, Matthew 5:13-16
B. Secondary Results 1. We ourselves will be changed a. "Be prepared to give an answer"; makes our personal Bible study critical I Peter 3:15 b. Greater appreciation of God's grace in our own lives c. Opportunity for us to develop our "cross-cultural" communication skills d. Due to our limited access to the youth we must pray and trust God to complete His good work in them. Philippians 1:3-6 2. Emmanuel Baptist Church will be involved a. Opportunity for personal discipleship and inviting others to participate in our church. Matthew 28:18-20 b. Opportunity to support the Detention Center Ministry with prayer, encouragement, and weekly volunteers. II Corinthians 9:12-15 3. Detention Center Staff will be influences and encouraged a. Challenge the staff to examine their personal relationship with God b. Encourage the staff with our selflessness, enthusiasm, and genuine care for them
C. Strategy 1. Prayer a. Prayer requests taken and prayed for during the week b. Prayer before and after our Friday Nite Alive program c. Weekly prayer updates provided for the church family 2. Letter Writing Each week kids who wish to receive a letter of encouragement and spiritual guidance will have a letter written and mailed to them. 3. Friday Night Alive A program that provides games, activities, and Bible study in a safe and encouraging environment. Typically two to four approved volunteers from Emmanuel Baptist Church participate in this program.
